FROM THE INVENTOR

Grant Lightfoot explains the problem behind Kiwi EcoNet

Kiwi EcoNet was developed by Southland farmer and inventor Grant Lightfoot after seeing the problems plastic bale netting could create on farm. In this video, Grant explains the thinking behind the product and why a natural fibre alternative matters.

FIELD-USE NOTES

Practical points before using Kiwi EcoNet

Kiwi EcoNet is designed as a practical natural fibre alternative to plastic bale netting. The videos and photos on this page show the product in use, but farmers and contractors should still allow for the differences that come with using a natural fibre product.

Natural fibre handling

Kiwi EcoNet is made from natural fibre rather than plastic nylon, so it may handle differently from conventional plastic bale netting.

350m roll length

The current roll is 350m. This means more roll changes at baling time compared with longer plastic bale netting rolls.

Designed for balers

Kiwi EcoNet is designed to run through standard baling machinery and has been tested in baling conditions.

More guidance coming

EcoNet Store will update product guidance as supplier information and first-season New Zealand feedback become available.

The benefit comes after baling: no plastic bale netting to strip off, collect, store, recycle, or dispose of at feed-out.
